Support our Troops with Operation Gratitude

Get 15% off for all yarn purchased for Operation Gratitude - Gather together to make a difference!
We will accept donated items until the end of the year!

Each year Operation Gratitude sends hundreds of thousands of care packages to our troops deployed in harm’s way, Wounded Heroes and their Caregivers, and Veterans in all 50 states. Every package is filled with snacks, hygiene items, handwritten letters, beanie babies, and beautiful handmade hats and scarves. Handmade With Love scarves and hats are one of the most cherished items in the care packages, because of the love and care put into every stitch.

Suggested Crochet and Knit Patterns for Hats and Scarves
If you have a favorite way to make a hat or scarf, please feel free to use your own pattern following the guidelines below.

Frequently Asked Questions!

What size is needed? Scarves should be a maximum of 4” - 6” wide and 48” - 50” long so they fit in the care packages. No fringe, please!

What colors are acceptable? Best to keep the colors subtle - Blues, browns, olive, grays, maroon, and black are all excellent choices.

What fibers are acceptable? All scarves and hats need to be made from wool, acrylics, or non-flammable fleece. Cool Ties should be made with 100% cotton. Please list the fiber content on your items.

Want to do more? Write a letter to our Heroes!

Of all the items included in these Care Packages, the most cherished are the personal letters of appreciation! The goal is to include several letters and colorful drawings in every Care Package and tell our
heroes “WE CARE!” Writing a letter is a meaningful way for Americans to show support for all who serve. It only takes five minutes of your day, but will bring lasting joy to the recipients.

LETTER WRITING TIPS

➔ Start with a salutation, such as “Dear Hero” or “Dear Brave One”...

➔ Write to a: Deployed Service Member, Veteran, Recruit Graduate, First Responder or a Wounded Hero & their Caregiver -- All deserve to be thanked for their commitment and bravery!

➔ Express your thanks for their selfless service.

➔ Please don’t date your letters, sometimes it can take up to a few months for our Care Packages to be received after they are sent.

➔ Avoid politics completely and religion in excess; however, saying you are praying for them is wonderful.

➔ Share a little about yourself: Family, Hobbies, Work, School, Pets, Travel.

➔ Adults: Include your contact information (mail or email) so the recipient can reply.

Children: USE FIRST NAMES ONLY and no addresses please.

➔ Can’t find the words? Consider drawing or painting a picture instead; please add a note to kids’ drawings with their age. Please avoid glitter!

➔ Please DO NOT put cards or letters in individual envelopes; all letters must go through an internal screening process.

Note: We are accepting cash donations to help with the cost of shipping the donated items.
