Technique Lab: Provisional Cast On
A provisional cast-on is a way to cast on stitches using waste yarn as a temporary cast on so that it can be easily unraveled after the knitting is complete, leaving you with live stitches which you can then place on your needle and use to knit in the opposite direction or for seaming (i.e. 3 needle bind off, Kitchener Stitch).

Light colored worsted weight yarn

US 7or 8 needle (straight or fixed circular (any length))

Size H or I crochet hook

Waste yarn (a couple of yards of yarn in a different color than the main color)
